12K, 60G Airlink, MR cover, wide FOV lenses, Portal & more — Pimax's July Progress Update

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcMxtX7LDWk

I think, here is the best place to post, I don´t like YT.

This video confirmed every part of my suspected reasons for delay.

  • Graphics power of current high end card (only RTX 4090 worth mentioning) still too low
  • bandwidth of DP: at least DP 2.1 required, and NVIDIA currently just not willing to deliver, AMD cards lack required performance. And you need it twice!
  • stereoscopic overlap: MUST BE SUFFICIENT (~100°) or causes trouble.
  • lenses issues
  • latency will rise, if bandwidth too low.

As a conclusion, only reduced details with current available video channel (DP 2.1) and still huge R&D tasks to solve.

Very honest statement, grounding hilarious expectation!

So, one anyhow need to wait for NVIDIA RTX 5090 including DP2.1 on PCI5x platform, with a powerful CPU behind.
Could be expected see Article on Videocardz but shifted to 2025 and DP2.1 still not confirmed.

May I make a proposal?
Regardless who will offer a graphics card, you should consider tunneling 2* DP2.1 and 2* USBC via optical fiber connection (cable bound) or WIGIG.
as well I would recommend stereoscopic overlap about 100°

What can be a compromise is, to allow one DP2.1 for “office and casual” with about 60HZ and every tweak on to reduce bandwidth requirements. There are expected downs, but if update to make use of 2 * DP2.1 is included/built in, then it would be a sustainable solution (or demo with enterprise workstation cards possible to show abilities and features)

That I would buy, then being able to update to a 6090 with sufficient computing power and connectors in about 3 Years or so.
