Battery switching doesn't work anymore

Details:

…looks like it’s broken. I was full of hope that it will work again with the latest fw and sw but it doesn’t, unfortunately :unamused: I’m doing the default procedure:

  • getting prompt “battery empty”
  • take hmd off my head and press power button shortly to switch off screens
  • pull empty battery and push freshly loaded one in
  • press power button shortly again to bring it back to life

what happens is that as soon as the power button is pressed for switching back on, the pimax play sw switches to inside out mode for 1-2 seconds and then back to lighthouse mode. but it doesn’t find the lighthouses anymore. no more tracking, screen stays black with backlight and nothing happens. only way to resolve this is to reboot HMD. that kills every game session of course.
can the team pls have a look at this?

Have you tried reinstalling the lighthouse faceplate?

You mentioned performing a battery hotswap, but after switching the battery, the HMD no longer stays connected. Have you successfully performed a hotswap of the battery before?

I’ve tested it once, when I received the crystal, which was in the first week of october 2023. iirc it was working back then, jep. but this was w/o the lh faceplate.

nope, re-installing the lh faceplate not tested. will do this this evening, need to sleep at least a bit now, sry

Sure, please keep me posted!

sh!t. it didn’t work. it doesn’t find the basestations again, I wrote my below answer a bit too early unfortunately… I’m testing the recommended workarounds / fixes now.

old text claimed it magically works; but it didn’t, I just wrote my answer too fast…

all righty, it’s the faceplate itself. I fortunately own two of the lh-fp’s, with the new unused one it works.

I’ve tested almost every possible combination of USB ports / hubs / re-seating the fp and repeated the test with the longer used faceplate. result:

  • when I use the old one while doing the battery hot swap, it’s not working. something hangs and impedes the “comeback of the base stations”.
  • with the new unused one it works. now I’ve got two devices which can claim for them “it just works!”

first I had in mind a sw or eventually a fw/hw bug…? but nope, no need for the team to get active

I mark this as solved now, finally! :+1::ok_hand:
and I’ll test now, if the drift-aways (what a STRANGE feeling when you cruise with 140mph in VR in rally racing and this happens then ROFLOLMAO) are gone too.
