:pimax_logo: play Login Issue

Today we had the first server outage in over a year, which lasted several hours. Here’s a bit more about that.

Today’s situation:

During today’s server outage, many users were unable to open Pimax Play and use their headset, unless Pimax Play was already opened.

This outage was related to Pimax Play’s login process, and completely unrelated to Pimax Prime.

Prime has minimal online requirements, and none after it’s been paid off. Prime only checks whether payment has been made a few times:

  • When being activated;
  • 14 days after being activated;
  • Once a month after that, unless or until it has been completely been paid off. In that case, it has zero online requirements.

Going forward:

Pimax Play already has an option to use your registered account, or a guest account.

In our next client update, we’ll add an offline option that has zero requirements to connect to the Pimax Play server (or any online server, for that matter).

We will also investigate what caused today’s server outage, to prevent this from happening in the future.

… told you so… !
Even worse, if someone blackamails PIMAX to shut down a certain device…

Pimax shouldn’t be forcing people to log in as a requirement to use the headsets. Meta learned that lesson and Pimax will, too.

The forced login/server connect will really only be for Headsets in a payment plan(pimax prime). Once the headset is paid off in full the online check will not be required.

So it comes down to if you buy it outright or not

From disclosing with @guppyexpress who rebuilt and fixed the 7invensun ET released for pimax. They can shutdown any if the ET they have released for any company by the serial. There is a variety of software and devices we own that the manufacturer/company can render inoperable via a ln update that is not on the open-source bandwagon l.

Samsung actually had to push an update to shutdown iirc the Note 7 that had the exploding battery issue. Sue to ppl not wanting to follow the safety recall.

We are therefore developing Pimax Play’s offline mode.
