Still the same question?
Pitool?
Pimax Play? (Release Date: 08/31/2024 )

Hello Darrel,
I had an 8KX ver2076 and I quickly stopped using Pimaxplay because I encountered display and performance problems under W11
Pimax informed me that Pimaxplay was fully optimized for the 8KX but I always doubted it
Before reselling the headset I used pitool 1.0.1 284 and I was very satisfied with it with pimaxXR 0.3.4
The versions after are incompatible

Thanks.
I have been on Pitool: V1.01.279 (ver2075) (Win10) for about two years. Clicking the button for update says I have the latest version.

I do have a problem with my 8kx just now, so looking into updating software and firmware is a good idea.
I should find where I can get a copy of pitool 1.0.1.284

This link looks like it still works

https://sh-dcc.oss-accelerate.aliyuncs.com/dcc/pitool/PiToolSetup_toC_1.0.1.284.exe

Found it on OpenMR

I would also maybe try the latest Pimax Play as it looks like they have added OpenXR support without requiring the OpenXR Pimax XR runtime that is no longer receiving updates.

Note will maybe scour OpenMR as many of the original download links likely still work. On my main :computer: I think I may have playa’s pimax archive.

Here is also a link for 283. 284 though I believe was the last pitool version released prior to pimax client/play.

The last version of pimaxplay I tested was 1.10.0.2.03 and it was very bad for me but maybe pimax has improved support on the latest versions. To be tested with the latest headset firmware

Yeah pimax software releases can at times be hit & miss with breaking compatibility. Why we were often cautious about updating if things were working fine.

As of today I can only download Pimax Play VERSION: V1.30.01
Pimax Play 1.31 is out soon (including integrated OpenXR runtime)

I will probably try:
Pitool: V1.0.1.279, had installed for ~two years (I just want to keep using this one.)
Pitool: V1.0.1.284, Available here
PimaxPlay V1.30.01, (OMG 500MB)
PimaxPlay V1.31.x, When released.

I did update to Pitool: V1.0.1.284.
This seems fine, not sure I can find the difference to the 279 I had installed.

I am having flashing screen problems with my 8Kx (even though I just came back from the factory for a fix).

As would be a standered set of problem-solving tools, I was forced to upgrade (Downgrade) to Piplay v1.30.01. I do see why we should start with the latest firmware and software!

PiPlay v1.30.01 is crap.
Forced to register and log in. I have been registered with pimax for 4 years and their system does not know me. I used my pimax username and password and I did not know me!
Pi play looks like a front end for Pitool: you need to open a new window for access to 8kx settings - and it looks just like pitool.
Now even harder to navigate.

Games listed many times. When I change the setting in one, they all seam to change. No way to delete that (clean it up)!
I can not find a way to start ProjectCars2 with PP. the settings seam to make no difference.
Hours in.

Darrell,
have you thought about doing a fresh install of windows!
I had “tinkered” with the software and hardware of the pimax so much that nothing worked at the end
After re-installing Windows, I got very good results.

3 posts were split to a new topic: Pimax 8kX blinking screens after repair

The “Games listed many times” fixed itself on a reboot.

“fresh install of windows!”: I only use this PC for 8Kx. Yes, that does seam like good advice. I should find the time to do that!

“start ProjectCars2 with PP” I did find a way to start ProjectCars2 with PP, but i does not seam consistent. Probably time to setup ProjectCars2 without PP. There is a guide somewhere!

Looking forward to running Pimax Play v1.32.01 with native OpenXR support.

The pimax play account is seperate from the pimax site login. At a guess maybe for security purposes so you main customer support account details are kept seperate? They really should make better details as I imagine many get irritated trying to use the main site account in pimax play. Not as they say intuitive.

Definitely could use some fixes. The earlier versions of pimax play called pimax client are indeed layered over the older pitool. Though if you loaded the pitool portion it would be in Chinese.

In part you can see there trying to create a steam like interface but have not got it finesse with the best elements and flow

PiPlay (Client) is not that bad. It does have everything I need in, almost, one place.

I do agree, there should only be one up-to-date piece of software!
Attempting to maintain and update, three: Pitool, Picliant and Piplay would be a nightmare and redundant.

It really does look like this new vision is making improvements, e.g. OpenXR.
I guess, I have two frustrations:

Image
1 Most updates are for the Crystal and not my 8Kx. And look at the files size.
PiTool 1.01.284 122MiB
PimaxPlay 1.30.01 516MiB
Image
2 The requirement to login.
Logging in could make things more convenient, say when sending comments and tickets back to Pimax.
But then:

Yeah it is hard to say why pimax does things like this @calvinyau

The Pimax site operates on a different platform, which prevents account synchronization with Pimax Play. As a result, users need to create a separate account. Additionally, since the site offers game sales, security is another important consideration.
